Anna Pavlova (1881-1931)

A famous Russian ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova is best known for changing the ideals for ballet dancers, as she was small and thin, not the preferred body of a ballerina during her time. She is also credited for creating the modern pointe shoe.



2. Mikhail Baryshnikov (1948-present)
Known as the best living male ballet dancer, Mikhail Baryshnikov is a famous Russian dancer. He has had roles in film, as he starred in the last season of Sex and the City.

3. Rudolf Nureyev (1938-1993)
Russian ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev is often regarded as the greatest ballet dancer of the 1960s and 1970s.

4. Michael Jackson (1958-2009)
Pop star of the 1980s, Michael Jackson wowed audiences with eye-popping dance moves, notably one called the "moonwalk." Michael displayed an amazing talent for rhythm and dance at a very young age.



5. Sammy Davis, Jr, (1925-1990)
An American dancer, Sammy Davis, Jr. was an entertainer remembered mostly for his tap dancing ability. He began tap dancing at the age of four.

6. Martha Graham (1894-1991)

Martha Graham was an American dancer and choreographer. She is known as the pioneer of modern dance. She dared to introduce new, modern dance moves to the world.

7. Fred Astaire (1899-1987)
Fred Astaire was a famous American film and Broadway dancer. He is well-known for starring with Ginger Rogers in musical films.

8. Gregory Hines (1946-2003)
Gregory Hines was an American dancer mostly known for his outstanding tap dancing abilities. He appeared in several dance movies, including White Nights and Tap.

BPM Dancer Performance at Contesa Charity Event HK

CONTESA a UK registered charity that supports Aids orphans in Zambia, is excited and proud to be hosting a prestigious fund raising launch gala “I Dream of Africa” on Saturday 6th November 2010 at the Aberdeen Marina Club, Hong Kong.

The purpose of the Gala is to raise funds and reinforce CONTESA’s mission and vision of building basic shelter to accommodate Aids orphans in Zambia and provide them with at least one basic meal a day by working alongside institutions and volunteers to provide support and education.

This prestigious event will be attended by; Her Excellency Ambassador Madam Joyce Musenge -Zambia Ambassador to China, His Excellency Mr. Anderson Chibwa -Zambia Ambassador to Malaysia and Mrs. Chibwa, Miss Zambia UK Miss Andella Matthews of Perrifield Promotions, Hon. Patron Mr John Grove and Mrs Grove and founder of CONTESA Mrs Esnat Avon.



Carolyn Hopkins, the Chairwoman of CONTESA Hong Kong, explained why this event is so important to the charity, “The purpose of this event is to highlight and create awareness of the suffering of these vulnerable children in Zambia and we are truly honoured to have such public figures attending the event.” She added “We expect to raise sufficient funds which will all be donated and used 100% for the feeding programmes, educational, outreach and building development projects. The gala promises to be an unforgettable and enchanting evening of African Mystique, a truly memorable experience.”

About CONTESA
CONTESA is a UK registered charity (1109311) set up in 2005 by Esnat Avon and her husband Roger. Esnat, was born and raised in Zambia but now lives in the UK. She now devotes much of her time to raising funds for CONTESA and creating awareness of the plight of orphans and disadvantaged children in one of the sub-Saharan countries most devastated by the AIDS epidemic, Zambia. She manages the charity on a daily basis from her home in St. Leonards. One of CONTESA’s pledges is that every penny donated goes directly to the support of the children.


BPM DANCERS OPENED THE SHOW WITH A FANTASTIC AFRICAN CONTEMPORARY PIECE, AND GREETED GUESTS IN THEIR COSTUMES AND MAKE UP TO CREATE A FANTASTIC ATMOSPHERE. AFTER DINNER, GUESTS WERE TREATED TO AN UPBEAT AFRICAN DANCE NUMBER THAT HAD THE CROWD ON THE DANCEFLOOR IN NO TIME.
